Instructor: Mrs. E. Lynette Davis-Sweet  Grades: KG - 5 Bldg: 5 Rm: 30

Course Description: KG – 5th Grades Access Points Reading, Language, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies, Community Based Instructions (CBI), Daily Living Skills and Social Skills.

Attendance: Within 90 days                                                                                                              After 3 days of unexcused absences, parent will be contacted                                                                After 5 days of unexcused absences, a referral is made to the principal by the guidance counselor to send parent a certified letter and possibly to convene a student study team within 30 calendar days or when student has 10 absents within 90 days.                                                                                          After 10 days of unexcused absences, student will be referred to the District's Elementary Schools Visiting Teacher (Carolyn Francis).                                                                                                            After 15 days of unexcused absences, student is considered "Habitually Truant".                                     

Classroom Procedures

8:00-8:30    Paras Arrival

7:55-8:00    Grandparent Arrival

8:15-8:30 Students are escorted to classroom where they unpack and get ready for the day. They put their homework folders in the blue box on the countertop in the front of the classroom. Early arrivals play with floor puzzles, cubes/blocks, small dry eraser boards or complete unfinished homework until time for the bell ringer. 

Bathroom procedure: If students need to go to the bathroom, they do not need to ask to go. There is a bathroom in the back of the classroom.

Pencils/Erasers: At the end of each day, students put pencils in a tray on their tables. I will sharpen all pencils daily, for students. If their pencil breaks, they may get another sharpened pencil and place the broken pencil back in the tray. Big erasers are kept in the trays on their tables in case they need an eraser.  

9:00-9:30 Students will learn using body and brain  warm-up exercises. 

9:30-10:00  Students will be seated and retrieve a pencil from the pencil trays on the work tables, and began the Bell Ringer/Morning Work: Handwriting Practice: letters/numbers/vocabulary.  (Mondday Specialized PE 9:30 -10:30)

10:00-11:00   ULS: Unique Learning System (Reading/Language/Writing/Science/Social Studies)                                                                                                                     

11:05-11:30 Lunch: Students wash their hands or use hand sanitizer and then line up, near the door. Paras go to lunch with students to supervise them. Snacks are sold in the caferteria but only students on green are allowed to buy a snack. Students are not allowed to buy snacks until they have eaten or tasted the food on their trays, and then they are only allowed to buy one item. Also, students are not allowed to take food out of the cafeteria. When lunch is completed, students are instructed to put all trash on trays and push in their chairs. Once all the trash is off the table and all the chairs are pushed in, students may throw away their trays and line up to return to the classroom. One student may wash the tables.

11:30-12:30 Student will do the 3-Rs (Rest-Relax-Read Silently).  During this time students will be allowed to choose a pillow and one or two books to read silently, on the floor. Also, I will use this time to work one-on-one with students that need extra help or need to make up assignment(s) and/or assessment(s) missed.

12:30-1:00   I-Ready Computer Lab (M-W) 

1:00-1:30 G-Walk - Recess/Snack Student will put book away and use the bathroom before going outside for recess except on the day we have specialized PE. If raining or too cold outside students may have free play in the classroom and get on the computer on educational sites only such as starfall.com, pbskids.com, abcya.com, etc. Upon returning to the classroom students will wash their hands and prepare for snack. The will get to choose from two choices of snack. Student will then put all trash in away and return to their seat to finish assignments for the day.  (Monday Music Therapy 1:00 -1: 30 pm)

1:30-2:15 ULS-Unique Learning System (Math/Science/Social Studies)

2:15–2:30 Quick review of skills/strategies taught each day.

2:30–2:45 Students Dismissal: Before dismissal students will clean up their tables, putting everything back where it belongs, placing pencils and assignments in trays on the tables. The teacher or the grandparent marks students' homework/behavior sheets for the day. Then students pack their bags and prepare for dismissal.
