Executive Summary: Stewart Street Elementary School
Stewart Street Elementary School's
faculty and staff work cooperatively and collaboratively with
students, parents, and the community. We set high expectations and
create a positive learning environment for students, faculty, and
staff in order to enhance performance and promote the development
of critical skills. Students are provided a challenging curriculum
in a clean, safe, non-threatening, and drug free environment.
High-quality staff, innovative and research-based strategies, as
well as the use of modern technology are key in the delivery of
instruction.
The school provides all students
with opportunities for quality learning and the necessary support
to ensure academic acceleration, consistent demonstration of
appropriate social behavior, and continuous personal improvement.

Stewart Street Elementary School is
located in Quincy, Florida, a rural community approximately
twenty-one miles west of Tallahassee, the state capital. One of the
twelve public schools in Gadsden County. Stewart Street was
originally built in 1965 for grades 1-8. In order to accommodate
school enrollment, the grade composition has changed several
times.
Currently, the school serves 628
students in grades Prek-5th. The faculty and staff consists of 2
administrators, 42 teachers, 1 reading coach, 1 guidance counselor,
4 custodians, 2 speech/language teachers, 8 cafeteria staff, 12
paraprofessionals, 2 behavior specialists, 2
office staff, 1 parent liaison and
a host of grandparents. Out of the 42 teachers, 7 serve exceptional
educational students. The school also serves the District's
emotionally handicapped students in grades Prek-5th. Approximately
43% of the students are females and 57% are males; 94% of the
students are Black, 4% are Hispanics and 2% are White; 98% of the
students are on free or reduced lunch.
Resource services are provided in
the area of hearing and vision, physical therapy, speech and
language and learning abilities. Technology programs offered at
Stewart Street are Successmaker and Accelerated Reader. Special
Area courses offered are library media, computer, physical and
character education.
The community provides very limited
social and educational opportunities and experiences for students.
Therefore, teachers plan a variety of field trips and experiences
to neighboring communities. In addition, assembly programs that
bring in groups with a variety of offerings such as water animals,
dental hygiene, body awareness, behavior, etc. are incorporated
into the school's calendar.
