On Friday, March 13, 2015 students and instructors of GTI Automotive, Carpentry, Small Engine, and Welding Technologies programs traveled to Gainesville, Florida to attend the NHRA GatorNationals Y.E.S program. The program focused on the importance of setting goals, and continuing education. Attending the Y.E.S. program allowed students to learn about and explore various career opportunities related to the sport of drag racing. After career presentations students were given tickets to enter the racetrack while the Top Fuel Funny Cars, Top Fuel Dragsters, and Pro Stock Dragsters engaged in qualifying runs.

Outside the track students were able to watch the highly trained technicians use science, math, and technology while working to prepare the cars for the races. At the race track students had an opportunity to observe cars that produce upwards of eight thousand horsepower travel the quarter mile in a little more than three seconds, at speeds over three hundred miles per hour. The race experience enabled all the students to see the skills they are learning applied to the sport of drag racing.
