My name is Christopher Germany and I am a Gadsden County native. This will be my 8th year teaching at Stewart Street Elementary. I am a thorough believer that teaching is not a profession; it’s a passion. Without a passion for your subject and a desire for your students to learn and be the best in the world, then we have failed as a teacher and failure is not an option.
In my classroom I am the facilitator. As a facilitator, I guide my students through the subject matter in order to assist the students in their own discoveries. The constructivist learning theory is one that I believe to be worthwhile, thus I agree with the fact that students can construct their own learning in my classroom.
All students are capable of learning, and all students have something to contribute to the classroom environment. Each student can bring new insights into a subject or raise questions about a subject that has not yet been considered. It is important to maintain a positive attitude about the students you teach. High expectations yield high results in the classroom. I feel that if I expect my students to work hard, and if I make this belief clear, my students will in turn work hard. I also believe that if I do not expect much out of my students, they will not work or show their exceptionalities.
I believe in connecting students' learning to something they know or value. With that in mind, I need to know my students. I need to know their interests, learning styles, and backgrounds. With this knowledge, my teaching will be better informed and more effective. By connecting students' learning to something they know, student engagement and motivation will be positively affected as a result.
As a teacher, it is my goal to provide students with the best possible learning environment that is conducive to learning. In my classroom learning is enjoyable and student engagement is in action. As cliché as it sounds, children are our future and they need to conquer the barrage of nonsense that is being filtered to them because they can succeed. It’s my desire as an educator to have a positive male impact on the next generation of our leaders.
